Partnering with Wolfe House & Building Movers, we successfully relocated the historic Cox House in Kennett Square, PA. Originally built in 1790, this 3,906 square foot home was once owned by John and Hannah Cox, Quaker farmers and social justice reformers who aided freedom seekers on the Underground Railroad. Bancroft and Wolfe House & Building Movers moved the historic structure approximately 100 feet to protect it from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Route 1 expansion project. The relocation followed months of careful preparation, including structural reinforcement with steel beams and cribbing, constructing a new foundation mirroring the original, and installing temporary rails and bracing to ensure stability.
