Bancroft Construction completed the extensive renovation of the historic Cresson Hall building located in the heart of the Lincoln University campus. Originally constructed in 1870, Cresson Hall was used as an upper-class residence hall. After nearly a decade of vacancy, Bancroft Construction and VMA revitalized the building, carefully preserving its historic character while addressing significant structural deterioration, asbestos, and other unforeseen challenges.
Nestled in the heart of campus, the project required innovative solutions for limited space, tight logistics, and high pedestrian traffic. Using strategic sequencing, creative staging, and advanced restoration techniques such as millwork replication, helical ties for brick stabilization, and bell tower refurbishment, the team restored Cresson Hall’s historic charm while ensuring modern functionality. Cresson Hall now houses an idea, offices, conference, exhibition, and gallery spaces. The second and third floors of the building feature single and double-occupancy resident rooms, each equipped with laundry facilities, restrooms, and group study spaces.
