The William
B. Keene Elementary School in Glasgow, Delaware relies on oversized
blocks outlined in primary colors to reinforce the school's theme:
Building Blocks to the Future.
The kindergarten
through fourth grade steel frame construction project is divided
into several learning pods. Within the 64,600 square foot structure,
there are approximately 31 classrooms, an administrative office,
a library, a cafeteria and kitchen, a media room, a music room,
an art room and group learning areas. Bancroft was also responsible
for constructing the school's playground.
The school
features state-of-the-art synchronized communication and clock
systems, wiring for computers and a closed circuit television
system with satellite hook-up capabilities. Construction
on this project was suspended for nearly a year due to on-site
archaeological finds including Native American artifacts and Colonial
pottery. Bancroft successfully maintained the entire Project Team
as well as all subcontractors through the setback and resumed
the project with the proper enthusiasm to complete it on budget
and within the adjusted time frame. The
Project Team also pushed to have the site stabilized and a watertight
shell completed within an amazing six-month period following the
archaeological dig.
