Building S-315 integrates a new standard of operational efficiency with researchers' ideas of an optimum working environment. As the Project Team conducted preliminary workshops to identify expectations and objectives, it became clear that function, architectural character, and internal and external environmental considerations were as important as parameters surrounding safety, quality, budget, and schedule. Bancroft's ability to address this dynamic combination of priorities yielded a sophisticated, collaborative, and flexible workspace. The sleek, well-organized laboratories, the dual fed service corridor, the carefully orchestrated circulation patterns, and the atrium's bold geometrics tempered by delicate pendant lighting reflect the astute planning and innovative approaches employed throughout the project life cycle. The project is currently four months ahead of schedule and $2 million under budget.
